On July 7, 1993, singer Mia Zapata was found brutally raped and murdered in the streets of Seattle. Scared and infuriated, her friends and community members came together to share their fears and discuss how to be safe in that environment. The result was a low-cost self-defense program. Understanding the connection between self-defense and self-expression, they politicized the Seattle scene. WORLD PREMIER
